About Miako

After the overthrow of the Milton Obote’s Government in 1971 by Idi Amin, at that time, all Kingdoms had been abolished and Uganda had become a Republic.  The young Prince returned to Uganda to attend the burial of his father after President Idi Amin allowed the return of his remains from London where he died in 1969. After the burial, The Prince became the head of the Royal House of the Kingdom as “Ssaabatakka”.

On 31st July 1993 His Majesty officially took over the throne after his Coronation at Naggalabi, Buddo and he was crowned as the 36th Kabaka of the Kingdom of Buganda. After coronation service of Thanksgiving followed, thanking God for restoration on the Buganda Kingdom, coronation day and life of Ssaabasajja Kabaka. Foreign dignitaries, Officials from the Central government, Officials from the neighboring Kingdoms and crowds of people from all over the country were present. It was a day of unimaginable magnitudes looking at the surging crowds of people at Naggalabi hill in Buddo.

Ssaabasajja Kabaka Ronald Muwenda Mutebi II is the first king anywhere in the world to achieve what he did. There is no King or Kingdom that had ever been abolished and got reinstated. Although His Majesty wasn’t the Kabaka in 1966 when Milton Obote abolished the Kingdom, he managed to take the mantle and have the Kingdom restored. It says so much about his ability to galvanize people.

About Miako

Naggalabi Buddo is Buganda Kingdom’s coronation site. This site is believed to have been the origin of the current Buganda Kingdom. For more than 800 years ago, this site has been Buganda Kingdom’s coronation site for all the Kings. It’s believed that all the rituals and spirits of Kings of Buganda that guide them during their reign originate from here.

Research has it that after Kabaka Kintu fiercely fighting and defeating his Brother Bemba Musota, he was crowned at this hill.  Since the 14th Century, all the Kings of Buganda have been crowned here including the current seating King Ronald Muwenda Mutebi II.
